There’s no such thing as a ‘typical guest’

At our latest retreat at the very end of January, we had five guests who each had such a wide range of experience and interests that it struck me as a perfect illustration of what we’re about.

Steve had self-published a dystopian novel inspired by the pandemic, and was working on a novelised memoir of growing up in west Yorkshire.

Judith had never written a word in her adult life, but had resolved to remedy this because her chaotic and colourful girlhood was a story she’d love to tell.

Nuala was with us to kick-start a new project – a book about women who either choose not to have children, or can’t have children, and the multitude of human stories around that topic.

Mark wanted advice – how to find an editor, how to find a publisher – for a novel he’d written set in Ancient Egypt.

Vicky was with us to find focus and motivation to keep up her writing ambitions, and to believe in herself as a writer.

So you see, there’s no such thing as a typical guest at Writers Inc! But they do tend to all have something in common; a love of words, and a desire to get them down on paper.
